Resend
Email APIResend is a modern email API built for developers who want to send beautiful, reliable emails without fighting legacy tooling. Think of it as what SendGrid would look like if it were built today from scratch with a React-first mindset. What makes Resend stand out is its companion library, React Email, which lets you build email templates using React components instead of wrestling with ancient HTML table layouts. For custom web application development, Resend is becoming my go-to choice for transactional email. The SDK is clean, the dashboard is intuitive, and the developer experience is miles ahead of older platforms. I use it for welcome emails, password resets, notification digests, and any triggered email that needs to look polished and arrive reliably.
Before It Existed
Resend was founded by Zeno Rocha, a Brazilian developer and entrepreneur who had previously built a popular open-source library called Dracula Theme (used by millions of developers for code editor color schemes). Rocha launched Resend in 2023 after years of frustration with existing email APIs. His key insight was that email development was stuck in the past, developers were building modern React frontends but then switching to 1990s-era HTML table layouts for their emails. He created React Email as an open-source project first, which gained massive traction in the developer community, and then built Resend as the email delivery platform designed to work seamlessly with it. The company raised $3 million in seed funding from Y Combinator and other investors, and quickly became one of the fastest-growing developer tools in the email space.
What Makes It Different
Before Resend, Zeno Rocha was already famous in the developer community for creating Clipboard.js, a tiny JavaScript library for copying text to the clipboard that has been downloaded over 300 million times on npm. He also built the Dracula Theme, a dark color scheme for code editors that has been ported to over 300 different applications and is used by millions of developers daily. The Resend brand and product design are heavily influenced by Rocha's background as a developer who cares deeply about aesthetics, the documentation site and dashboard are frequently cited as some of the best-designed developer tool interfaces in the industry.
